Travelling to Althorp

DRIVING

The House is a mere 10-minute drive from the M1, under an hour from major cities, and less than an hour-and-a-half from London. It is little wonder guests find Althorp so easy to get to – and so hard to leave.

FROM THE NORTH

Althorp can be approached from Junction 18 of the M1.

Take the first left at the roundabout and follow signs to Northampton.

FROM THE WEST

Althorp is signed from junction 1 of the A 14 (west bound only).

Follow A5199 to Chapel Brampton and turn off to Althorp.

FROM THE SOUTH

Althorp is clearly signed as you approach Northampton from Junction 16 of the M1.

GATE ENTRY & CAR PARK

WEST GATE VISITOR ENTRANCE – NN7 4HQ
The Visitor parking is located outside of the West Gate Entrance, parking is free and pre-booking is not required.
The pin on the map to the left indicates the carpark location. The GPS Coordinates 52.277380, -1.010271.

The Disabled/Blue Badge parking is located inside the grounds and access is through West Gate, parking is free and pre-booking is not required.

For Visitors preferring to purchase tickets on arrival, the ticket office is located at the West Gate Entrance.

EAST GATE COACH ENTRANCE – NN7 4HE
East Gate, located on the A428, is the Coach and Mini-bus entrance as it offers a wider turning circle. Cars that arrive at East Gate will be directed to the West Gate Visitors Car park.

BY COACH

Coach access is through the East Gates on the A428.

BY BUS

National Express Coaches run a service to Northampton Bus Station from many locations throughout the UK.

For details of this service please visit the National Express website. A taxi can then be used to complete your journey. This should take 10-15 minutes.

BY TRAIN

The National Rail service provides trains to both Long Buckby (10 mins) and Northampton Train Station (20 mins) from throughout the UK.

A regular service is offered from London Euston and Birmingham International. Please visit the National Rail website for more details.

Upon arrival at Northampton Train Station visitors can tender a taxi to Althorp for the cost of around £15.00 – £20.00. Taxis from Long Buckby take approximately 10 minutes and will cost £10.00 – £15.00.

BY BICYCLE

Althorp is surrounded by beautiful countryside well suited to cycling.

Althorp welcomes visitors who choose to travel by bicycle, we advise visitors check with the relevant local councils for safe cycle networks before starting your journey.

Bicycles can be left in the visitor car park at the owners risk, Althorp cannot accept any responsibility for the security of bicycles left in the car park.

Please note: no direct facility is provided for bike locks, although some fencing is suitable for this purpose.
